Owens Fined $35,000 For Spitting Incident Saturday

The NFL today fined Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens $35,000 for spitting at Atlanta Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall during the Cowboys' triumph Saturday night in Atlanta.

Owens was not suspended, keeping with precedent for punishments levied by the league for similar infractions in the past.

Hall complained to the officials on the field. But the officials hadn't seen what Owens had done and Owens was not penalized or ejected. Hall called for Owens to be suspended by the league.

Hall said that Owens spit in his face following a play on the Cowboys' opening drive of the game. Owens later acknowledged that he'd spit at Hall, telling the NFL Network during a postgame interview that Hall was bothering him with what he was saying and apologizing for what he'd done.

Owens had two touchdown catches against Hall in the Cowboys' 38-28 win. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed after the game that Owens recently had decided not to undergo season-ending surgery for a tendon injury to his right ring finger, putting himself at risk for having restricted mobility in the finger permanently.

One more reason (besides the greedy NFL Network) that this is my last season watching & following the NFL. I'm tired of this crap and the gangs, and the on-field/off-field violence and general misbehavior by these hoods in sports...

Just one more reason to talk about T.O., which is exactly what he wants. I wish the Cowboys would dump him. He's an embarrassment, and his playing hasn't even been that extraordinary. Jerry Jones should quit bending over backwards for this guy. It's been really difficult to remain a Cowboys fan.

I been watching football since I was ten years old, but in the old days of football, the players played for the love of the game. It seems, now that the game has gone corporate and the owners are babying the players and giving in to their demands. T. O. should be suspended for that spitting incident.

Terrel Owens has never had any issues outside the field. He has never once been arrested and he has been playing with a dislocated finger and is risking permanent injury by not having immediate surgery. I doubt any of the media favorites who are nothing but overrated hype such as Eli Manning and Michael Vick would ever play with that type of injury. Nor would most of the players in the league. As to the people who critize Owens for having personality problems you should all shut the f_ck up and turn your attention to steroid junckies such as Shawn Merriman and others who cheat their way to success.

Instead of talking of this idiot, the media should be talking about the Buffalo Bills. This team needs help to be saved . This is a positive team in the NFL and stands for positive things. Mark can you help this problem get the national attention it deserve. We need are football team in the long winters and we should have the support from this league.

Well, Mr. $10,000,000 a year Terrel Owens must really be upset about getting fined $30,000. What a complete joke. No suspension! Please! Can we get serious? I think the league should announce right now that the next time someone spits in another human beings face, they will be suspended for a year. Because they made a poor call when Taylor did it, should not effect what happens in the future. I agree with Michael Wilbon and Tom Jackson that the spitting in someone's face is worse then the fighting in the Knicks-Nugetts' game. Owens playing hurt in no way excuses being so disrespectful to another human being. Certainly no words even the "n-word" or "mf" equal the degrading nature of having somone's spit on your face, especially for Hall who could not do anything about it without getting himself thrown out of the game. Hall put his team before himself. Has Owens ever done that? Owens action was so cowardly. I am sure that a showboater with as little real substance as Owens would never have the guts to do that to someone in an empty alley.

The jerk should have been fined $100k and suspended for a game.
This kind of crap is NOT what I want my kids to see or be exposed to. Friggin' a**hole.

...and Sean Taylor should have been zinged for his episode. He's another borderline gangtsa that needs hard lovin' from the coaches to keep him in line. Afraid he'll end up much worse than Dexter Manley.

It is most unfortunate that the money being spent on these selfish athletes could go to other worthy causes. When these knuckleheads get fined AND suspended, they should go to anger management classes during their suspension. When trading time comes, who wants another headache with a $1M simpleton hitting against the salary cap who plays mediocre at best and constantly ranting and raving about one thing or another.
The league was very patient with Dexter but definitely needs to tighten up on repeated obnoxious behavior. The time is now.

T.O. IS T.O. AND THIS IS TO BE EXPECTED FOR HIS MOUTH IS ALWAYS THE PROBLEM TALKING SPITING OR SWOLLOWING PILLS WHO IS HE HURTING BUT T.O. SO I SAY IGNORE HIM AND LET HIM PLAY AND HE WILL SLOWLY GO AWAY LIKE HIS TALENT IS GOING (FROM A COWBOY FAN FROM 40 YEAR'S BACK )
