Smoot Breaks Jaw in Auto Accident

Cornerback Fred Smoot is to miss the Minnesota Vikings' season finale this weekend. He broke his jaw in five places in a car accident Friday in his native Mississippi.

Vikings players were given the weekend off after losing Thursday night in Green Bay. Coach Brad Childress told reporters today he believed that Smoot had gone home from the hospital after undergoing surgery for his injuries in the single-car accident.
