Cowboys Interviewing J. Garrett for Offensive Coordinator Job

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is interviewing Jason Garrett today for the team's offensive coordinator job.

Garrett, a former backup quarterback for the Cowboys, now is the Miami Dolphins' quarterbacks coach. The Dolphins, according to an NFL source, granted the Cowboys' request to interview Garrett only after Jones agreed to make a decision by Thursday as to whether he'd hire Garrett.

People around the league say they believe that if Jones hires Garrett, he's likely to hire San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator Wade Phillips as his head coach to replace Bill Parcells, who announced his retirement Monday. San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Norv Turner, the former head coach of the Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders, also has been mentioned as a possibility. He was the Cowboys' offensive coordinator before being hired by the Redskins and remains close to Jones.

Jerry Jones should hire the coach first, and then allow the coach to determine his assistance coaches and coordinators. At least Jerry is being forthright in signaling that he's a meddlesome owner whose going to involve himself in all aspects of the coaches job. Perhaps Jerry should start working on the play book.

Steelers fan is right on. Why bother with the process if you do not have a head coach. Apparently, he must have his Dave Campo lined up. As a Skins fan, got to love it.
