Report in Pittsburgh Says Steelers to Hire Grimm, Not Tomlin
The Pittsburgh Steelers' choice of a head coach to succeed Bill Cowher has become a mess.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported today that Steelers offensive line coach Russ Grimm had been offered the job and accepted it. His hiring is to be announced at a news conference Monday, the newspaper reported.
On Saturday night, people familiar with the search had said the club was close to hiring Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin. There were reports, denied by the Steelers, that Tomlin already had been chosen over Grimm and the team's other finalist, Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.
The Steelers issued a written statement this morning saying they hadn't completed a contract agreement with a coach and didn't plan to do so today.
