Chargers on One-Per-Day Interviewing Schedule

The San Diego Chargers have their interviewing lineup set for the next few days.

After Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan interviews today, it's Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera on Friday and San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Norv Turner on Saturday. After that comes Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, perhaps on Sunday. New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs and Seattle Seahawks defensive backs coach Jim Mora could be interviewed next week.

The Chargers began their head coaching search Wednesday by interviewing 49ers linebackers coach Mike Singletary. He ran into Marty Schottenheimer as the just-fired Chargers coach was cleaning out his office.

Hmmm. The Chargers are interviewing coordinators from other teams? To leave their current team for a better opportunity? Isn't that one of the complaints they had about Marty Schottenheimer, that he allowed Charger staff to interview for better opportunities? You mean the Chargers won't either promote from within or hire from outside NFL teams, such as from the college ranks or the Pop Warner leagues, but instead will do what they essentially criticized other teams for doing - giving opportunity to current NFL staff?

The Chargers are looking for a head coach. There is nothing inappropriate about hiring a coach from another team to be a head coach. I haven't seen that A.J. had a problem with that in the case of Philips and Cameron. What has been reported is that A.J. was upset that two Charger position coaches got coordinator positions with other teams. The Chargers could have stopped that from happening but did not. In terms of interviewing Rivera, G. Gibbs or other non-head coaches for a head coaching position, there is no hypocrisy on the Chargers part.

You have the best team in the NFl, Could'nt win in the play off , So if you need a change then you find a guy who has taken a team to a Super Bowl. But Now they are in a situation they could be a laughing stone of the NFL. This sound likes Jerry Jones firing Jimmy Johnson. But at least Barry took the team to the Super Bowl. Charges might end up with 6-10.

I am surprised the Chargers are not interviewing Barry Switzer for the job.

There should be a new "Rooney Rule" that mandates NFL owners to interview a homosexual head coaching candidate whenever there is a vacancy.

Who Cares? If a guy can do the job then who cares, i.e. Clinton Portis!
