Saints Add Simmons, Look at Vanderjagt
The New Orleans Saints agreed to a contract with veteran linebacker Brian Simmons, a free agent who'd been released by the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Saints remade their linebacking corps before this past season by acquiring Scott Fujita, Scott Shanle and Mark Simoneau and now hope they've added another productive player.
The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported, meanwhile, that the Saints are scheduled to meet today with free agent kicker Mike Vanderjagt.
Vanderjagt has been out of the league since being released by the Dallas Cowboys during the season. Saints kicker John Carney went 23 for 25 on field goal attempts this past season but kickoff specialist Billy Cundiff is a free agent. The Times-Picayune reported it's possible that the Saints are interested in Vanderjagt as a kickoff specialist but that would be odd, given that his kickoffs always have been considered his weakness.
