Trade Offers Were Lacking For Lions
The Detroit Lions didn't get the sort of trade offers they were expecting before keeping the second overall choice in the NFL draft Saturday and using it on Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson.
Lions President Matt Millen said on a Detroit radio station this week that he discussed a possible deal with the Atlanta Falcons. He and Falcons President Rich McKay swapped proposals, Millen said, and McKay promised to call back, but never did. Millen said he didn't have substantive talks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Johnson was regarded by many observers as the best player available in the draft but the Lions have received some criticism because they used a top-10 selection on a wide receiver for the fourth time in five years.
