Chargers Seeking Return of Bonus Money By S. Foley
The San Diego Chargers have filed a grievance in an attempt to force linebacker Steve Foley to return nearly $3.8 million in bonus money.
Foley's agent, David Levine, told the San Diego Union-Tribune that he had been hopeful of reaching a settlement but the Chargers may have "had second thoughts on what we had agreed to."
Foley has not played since suffering leg injuries when he was shot in the leg last September by an off-duty police officer who followed Foley's car because he suspected that Foley was driving drunk. Foley spent last season on the reserve-nonfootball injury list and was released by the Chargers after the season. He has called his injuries career-ending and has sued the officer and the city of Coronado, Calif. Foley pleaded guilty to a drunk driving charge and was sentenced to probation.
