Huard Gets Chiefs' Starting Nod Over Mistake-Prone Croyle
The Kansas City Chiefs named Damon Huard their starting quarterback.
Huard won a competition with youngster Brodie Croyle.
Huard played well last season as a fill-in starter while Trent Green was sidelined by a concussion, finishing the season as the NFL's second-rated passer behind Peyton Manning. Huard re-signed with the team this past offseason, while Green was traded to the Miami Dolphins.
Coach Herman Edwards and other Chiefs officials nevertheless put the starting job up for grabs and seemed eager to turn over the position to Croyle if he showed he was ready. But Croyle had a mistake-plagued preseason and even a calf injury didn't keep Huard from getting the nod.
