Trotter to Visit Bucs Today as Eagles Teammates Wonder Why He Was Cut
Free agent linebacker Jeremiah Trotter is scheduled to visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today.
Trotter was released Tuesday by the Philadelphia Eagles. The Buccaneers have Barrett Ruud at middle linebacker after releasing Shelton Quarles in the offseason. Trotter, 30, is a four-time Pro Bowl selection at middle linebacker.
In Philadelphia, Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was wondering about the club's decision to cut Trotter. McNabb said at his regular news conference that he'd spoken to Eagles Coach Andy Reid about the move, which McNabb called "something I did not expect and something it probably is going to take days for us to get over, days or weeks."
Reid has been evasive in his public responses to questions about the decision to release Trotter.

The Reid-era Eagles have generally been brutal about cutting older players. As an Eagles fan I don't like cutting Trotter because I like him, but I basically trust their decision that it's time to get younger at that position. And boy are they young and inexperienced at LB! Basically only Spikes has been a starter before.
