Boller Extension Could Take Ravens Out of Running for Leftwich

INDIANAPOLIS--The Baltimore Ravens' signing of quarterback Kyle Boller to a one-year contract extension today might take them out of the running for Byron Leftwich.

Ravens officials had been in contact with the representatives for Leftwich, the former starter in Jacksonville who was released by the Jaguars last weekend. With Boller eligible for free agency after this season, the thought was that the Ravens might bring in Leftwich as a possible down-the-road successor to current starter Steve McNair; Boller would remain the backup temporarily, then would be allowed to leave after the season.

Now the Ravens have a bit more of a commitment to Boller, and the likelihood that they would bring in Leftwich seems diminished.

It's possible that Leftwich will end up in Kansas City instead.
