Raiders Likely Turning to Culpepper
Daunte Culpepper's first start at quarterback for the Oakland Raiders could come this weekend against one of his former teams, the Miami Dolphins.
Josh McCown beat out Culpepper for the starting job entering the season but is likely to be sidelined for a week or two because of a broken toe. That leaves Culpepper to start against Dolphins, with whom he spent one injury-filled, frustrating season and then was released after the acquisition of Trent Green.
The Raiders have four quarterbacks on their roster but McCown is hurt and rookie JaMarcus Russell isn't ready to play after missing all of training camp and the preseason because of his contract dispute. The Raiders would like to trade Andrew Walter but can't, for now, because he's needed to back up Culpepper.
