Cardinals, Panthers in Quarterback Market
The Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers are in the quarterback market this week, searching for veteran backups to play behind newly elevated starters.
The Arizona Republic reported that Vinny Testaverde and Tim Rattay were scheduled to work out for the Cardinals today. The Cardinals want a backup for Kurt Warner, who takes over as the team's full-time quarterback after splitting the duties in recent weeks with starter Matt Leinart. Leinart is sidelined indefinitely by a broken collarbone.
The Panthers are planning to sign a backup for David Carr, who keeps the club's starting job now that Jake Delhomme has decided to undergo season-ending elbow surgery. Carr was knocked from last weekend's triumph over the New Orleans Saints by a back injury but returned to finish the game. Carr has made two starts since Delhomme hurt his elbow in a Sept. 23 game against the Atlanta Falcons.
