Saints Probably Sticking With Struggling Mare For Now

The New Orleans Saints appear to be leaning toward sticking with Olindo Mare as their field goal kicker for now after he tested his strained groin muscle during Thursday's practice and his performance seemed to satisfy Coach Sean Payton.

Mare has missed four of his seven field goal attempts this season. He had two key misses during last Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers, a 20-yarder that was blocked and a 54-yarder late in the game.

The Saints worked out seven free agent kickers on Tuesday, including Mike Vanderjagt, Martin Gramatica and Billy Cundiff. They didn't sign any of them, but seemingly could make a switch soon if Mare continues to struggle.

Punter Steve Weatherford probably will continue to handle the kickoff duties.
