Week 5 Picks

Local Teams

Lions at Redskins
The Lions can throw the ball. But they can't run it, protect their quarterback or play much defense. If the Redskins stay out of a fast-break, who-can-score-last game, they should prevail at home.
Pick: Redskins

Ravens at 49ers
The Ravens haven't played like one of the league's better teams but they should be able to beat Trent Dilfer.
Pick: Ravens

Lock of the Week

Browns at Patriots
The Browns are better, but not good enough to win in Foxborough.
Pick: Patriots

Upset of the Week

Bears at Packers (Sunday night)
Brian Griese should be better in his second start, and it's nearing now-or-never time for the defending NFC champs.
Pick: Bears

Games of the Week

Seahawks at Steelers
The Seahawks still can't be trusted to play well every week.
Pick: Steelers

Buccaneers at Colts
The Colts are beat up. But the Bucs don't want to hear it as they ready to play without Cadillac Williams and Luke Petitgout.
Pick: Colts

Chargers at Broncos
The Chargers need it. But the Broncos just might be better, and they're at home.
Pick: Broncos

Other Games

Jets at Giants
The Giants secure the championship of Exit 16W.
Pick: Giants

Falcons at Titans
The Falcons have their win for the season.
Pick: Titans

Cardinals at Rams
Gus Frerotte to the rescue? Uh, no.
Pick: Cardinals

Panthers at Saints
The Saints get into the win column.
Pick: Saints

Jaguars at Chiefs
Maybe, just maybe, the Chiefs are a real team, after all.
Pick: Chiefs

Dolphins at Texans
The Texans have to rebound to show they're not a pretender.
Pick: Texans

Cowboys at Bills (Monday night)
It's close to lock of the week status, even with the Cowboys on the road.
Pick: Cowboys

Mark, Last week you predicted Packers upset and you lost. Again, this week you are predicting Packer upset. What have you got against the Packers.

Nothing, other than I don't think they're going 16-0.
Based on the success of my picks last week, anyone who likes the Packers should be ecstatic that I'm picking against them.

I gotta go with you on this one Mark. Bears over Pack. My beloved Packers always honk AT LEAST one game that should be a shoe-in. I'm feeling that this one is it. You're right, they aren't a 16 - 0 team and I don't think they hit 5 - 0. It's a must-win for the Bears and I see the Pack feeling a little high 'n mighty right now; ripe for an upset.

I don't dislike the Packers. I really don't. They have a very good defense and Brett Favre is playing extremely well. They're looking to me like a team that's going 10-6 and making the playoffs. But if you go 10-6, that does mean you lose six times.

Mark - It's "Foxboro" not "Foxborough". Common mistake as I've seen it elsewhere....FYI.

I say bills upset cowgirls. And may be redskins loose too.

Our newspaper's style is Foxborough. I've seen it both ways as well.
