Chiefs Awaiting Test Results on L. Johnson's Injured Foot

The Kansas City Chiefs could be without tailback Larry Johnson for an extended period because of what the team called a midfoot sprain suffered during Sunday's loss to the Green Bay Packers.

The Chiefs were awaiting the results of tests taken on Johnson's right foot. Johnson set an NFL record with 416 carries last season and ran for 1,789 yards, then signed a six-year, $45 million contract before this season. He has run for 559 yards and three touchdowns this season.

Priest Holmes, who has returned this season from a career-threatening neck injury, and rookie Kolby Smith probably would split carries in Johnson's absence.

"We've got to do it by committee a little bit," Coach Herman Edwards said during a news conference Monday. "If we've got to do it that way, we've got to do it that way."
