League Fines L. Landry, L. Ramsey One Game Check Each for Illegal Hits

The league handed out hefty fines today to Washington Redskins safety LaRon Landry and Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey for illegal hits with their helmets during Sunday's games.

Each was fined one game check--$16,764 for Landry and $21,176 for Ramsey.

Landry was fined for a helmet-to-helmet hit on New York Jets quarterback Kellen Clemens. Ramsey was sanctioned for spearing Dallas Cowboys tailback Julius Jones.

Both are repeat offenders. According to the league, Landry was fined $7,500 for two unnecessary roughness violations during a game against the Arizona Cardinals last month, and Ramsey was fined $5,000 for roughing the passer in a game against the Jets last month.

Gene Washington, the NFL's director of football operations, warned both players in letters that similar violations in the future could produce larger fines and suspensions, the league announced.

I was a little surprised Ramsey wasn't ejected on the spot. That was a really cheap shot. I was also surprised the Boy's didn't settle things themselves before the end of the game.

I saw the hit from Landry, and I have to say: he was punished enough on the field.

Clemmons ducked down into Landry when he saw Landry coming; Landry didn't go after the helmet-helmet hit.
