Ditka Announces He'll Dissolve Fund for Former Players
Mike Ditka announced today that he would dissolve his charitable fund for needy former NFL players.
Ditka said during an appearance in Minneapolis to publicize another fund that he would dissolve his Hall of Fame Assistance Trust Fund. USA Today reported last week that the fund had distributed only about $57,000 to former players after collecting $1.3 million since its formation in 2004. The fund reportedly netted only $315,000 after expenses.
Ditka said the fund had given $159,000 to players.
He said today that the more than $600,000 remaining in the fund would be divided between the Gridiron Greats, another fund for former players, and a facility for developmentally disabled children.
