P. Rivers Practices

San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers participated in about half of Thursday's practice.

Rivers hopes to play this weekend on a sprained knee. If he can't, backup Billy Volek will take over.

The Chargers will be without linebacker Shawne Merriman because of a sprained knee.
