Final Regular Season Rankings

The Patriots, of course, keep the top spot and the Colts stay at second after losing a game they barely tried to win. The Cowboys drop because they actually tried to beat the Redskins and couldn't come close, and Terrell Owens's status is uncertain entering the playoffs. The Redskins get a ranking higher than their record dictates because they're simply playing the best football in the NFC right now. The Steelers, minus Willie Parker, are the most vulnerable team in the postseason field.

What a homer ranking. Redskins probably should be put at 13-14.

Let's look at the teams in the actual order:
1 Patriots
2 Colts
3 Chargers
4 Cowboys
5 Packers
6 Steelers
7 Jaguars
8 Seahawks
9 Buccaneers
10 Titans
11 Browns
12 Giants
13 Redskins

I would probably rank the Redskins 1-2 positions lower, but I recognize that they eventually did make the playoffs. But the reality is the Cowboy win was not real. They played a team that rested it's starters, had home field advantage locked up, and the Redskins had everything to play for.

I realize you have to be a little bit of a homer, but the Redskins are probably the weakest playoff team right now. All the goodness of Saint Joe notwithstanding.

Ombudsman,

How in the world could you put the Browns, a team that did not even make the playoffs and choked at the end, ahead of the Skins? You might as well put the Vikes and Saints ahead of the Skins as well.

Agreed the Steelers are the most vulnerable, especially with Steamboat Willie out. The Cowbs though, have their fair share of injuries and have been less then inspiring lately. They are maybe the most vulnerable in the NFC right now.

What Cowboys-Redskins game were you watching? The Cowboys didn't rest their starters. They left them in the game until the score was way out of hand. The Cowboys should have rested their starters, and I wouldn't have put much stock into the outcome. But they played everyone they had for a long, long time, and didn't come close to winning.

Mark, I like the list. I'm actually not going to spill my own bias, but really do favor your list as it does show some "depth". Thanks & keep it up.

I agree with these rankings, except that the Titans need to be lower down, while you need to run to win in the playoffs, at some point they are going to have to try and pass the ball, and Vince Young isn't good enough yet to take care of the ball in the post season.

Sam,

I hate to say it, but Vince Young isn't the guy in Tennessee. He'll always get them to the cusp of being good, but he doesn't have what it takes to get over that hump.

He's not unique in that regard, but the Titans have put themselves in a box with this guy. If they get rid of him, PR-wise, it will look bad.

Mark, how could you put a 11-5 team ahead of 13-3. Your prejudice is showing, again.
