Gibbs Defends Snyder, Redskins' Search Process
PHOENIX--Former Washington Redskins coach Joe Gibbs said today he has no problem with the way that owner Daniel Snyder has conducted the search for Gibbs's successor.
"Dan has worked really hard at this," Gibbs said by telephone. "It takes time. I know how much he's put into it. I was happy to see what happened with Greg Blache [being promoted to defensive coordinator] and seeing how much of the staff is staying. That will help with the continuity that we talked about. I feel good about how it's going. It's a tough process and I know Dan is putting a lot into it."
The group formed to promote diversity in hiring at all levels of the NFL, the Fritz Pollard Alliance, is lobbying for the Redskins to hire Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Ron Meeks, the only African-American candidate interviewed by the team.
"We heard the interview went extremely well and we applaud Dan Snyder and the Redskins for being so thorough," said Cyrus Mehri, the Washington attorney whose efforts, along with those of the late Johnnie Cochran, led to the formation of the group. "We think Ron Meeks would be a great fit with the Redskins and would help pull the team together and the entire city together. He's one of the most respected coordinators from one of the most respected franchises in the league. He's ready, and the trend now is to bring in new head coaches as opposed to prior head coaches."

Who cares what a bunch of attorney's think Snyder should hire who he thinks is the best person for the job. As a fan I wanted gregg williams but it's snyder's decision and I may not like the decision but I will support it. These lawyers don't know anything about football they are only saying meeks should get it because of the color of his skin you wouldn't see them backing fassel, mooch, or mcdaniels.

I think that Dan Synder should lobby the Washington Law Firm community to hire more "colored folk" as they are likely viewed by that community. Talk about he pot calling the kettle black. The ultimate of the old boys club trying to make suggestions to the NFL. What's next, the KKK giving advice to the NAACP. Give me a break

Remember what happened last time Joe Gibbs retired. To the acclaim of fans and team members alike Defensive Coordinator Rich Pettibone was quickly selected head coach. The team did not get out of last place for almost a decade. Maybe Snyder deserves more credit than he has been given for trying to avert a similar disaster. I mean the man is a self made billionaire and he loves the team as much as any of us fans who wanted the quick-fix Gregg Williams choice for head coach. Let Dan work in peace and I'm sure we'll all be delighted with his choice.

Dan will hire the best man for the job. Jim fassel had his chance as a Head Coach, What were the results? There is a reason why no owner has hired Jim. Steve Mooch same results as Fassel. There is a reason no owner has hired Mooch. Give Meeks the chance that he deserves. Stop recycling the rejects.

Hello, of course I came to visit your site and thanks for letting me know about it.
I just read this post and wanted to say it is full of number one resources. Some I am familiar with. For those who don't know these other sites they are in for a treat as there is a lot to learn there.

Perhaps Snyderman and Vinny will consult with Cyrus Mehri about the intricacies of the cover-two defense or whether or not the Skins should run a zone blocking offense next year.
By the way, law firm partners are the last people in the world who should give advice about the ethics of hiring. Their profession is corrupted by an old boy network of friends, families, country club members, lobbyists, ex-politicians and elite colleges that make it nearly impossible for some average Joe Blow to enter their world.
That said, I actually think Meeks would be better than many of the other coaches mentioned in this joke of a selection process. For his sake, however, I hope that Tony Dungy really cares about Meeks' future and counsels him away from accepting the Skins job as the organization is dysfunctional.
