Browns Reportedly Have Deal to Keep D. Anderson
The Cleveland Browns reportedly have agreed to a deal to retain quarterback Derek Anderson, a restricted free agent.
The Associated Press reported that Anderson agreed to a multi-year contract to remain in Cleveland.
The two sides had been discussing a three-year deal worth about $20 million.
Anderson threw for 3,787 yards and 29 touchdowns for the Browns this past season, keeping prized rookie Brady Quinn on the bench. The Browns decided to keep both quarterbacks for at least one more season and made a push to re-sign Anderson before the free agent market opened. They failed, but they continued negotiations.
In the meantime, the Browns gave Anderson the highest tender in restricted free agency, meaning they had the right to retain Anderson by matching any offer from another team and the right to receive first- and third-round draft picks as compensation from Anderson's new club if they allowed him to leave.
