Eagles to Make Push to Sign A. Samuel Today

The Philadelphia Eagles plan to make a push to sign cornerback Asante Samuel today, an NFL source said.

Samuel, one of the most accomplished players available on the unrestricted free agent market, is scheduled to visit the Eagles today. He apparently is seeking a deal worth about $10 million per season.

Samuel, 27, has spent his entire five-year NFL career with the New England Patriots but appears set to sign with another team.

He had 22 interceptions in his five seasons with New England, including 10 in 2006 and six this past season. He was called the best cornerback in the league by Patriots veteran safety Rodney Harrison during Super Bowl week.

The Eagles are not known as big free agent spenders but have targeted Samuel and apparently would like a complete a deal before he finishes today's visit.
