Giants' Performance Gives Spagnuolo Options
PHOENIX--So the next question about Steve Spagnuolo is: Will the New York Giants' defensive coordinator want the Washington Redskins' head coaching job now that he's the hottest thing going?
Spagnuolo's stock is soaring after the Giants shut down the highest-scoring offense in NFL history to beat the New England Patriots, 17-14, in the Super Bowl on Sunday night in Glendale, Ariz. The Redskins waited this long to have a chance to interview him, and it stands to reason that the performance of the Giants' defense Sunday gives Spagnuolo a decent shot to land the Redskins' job.
On the one hand, the Redskins have the league's last head coaching vacancy. They pay exceedingly well and have a reasonably talented roster. Head coaching jobs don't come around every day, and Spagnuolo has no way of knowing if he'll still be a hot commodity a year from now.
Still, his choice to take the job if he can get it might not be automatic. It stands to reason that the Giants will offer him a huge raise to stay as defensive coordinator, and he might be able to have his pick of head coaching jobs in a year.
It's good to be a Super Bowl champion, and what transpired Sunday night at University of Phoenix Stadium has given Steve Spagnuolo options.

Well, as a 35 year Redskins fan, through the highs and the lows, the hype and the ridicule, i feel as though with Snyder at the helm, i will die never to see a Superbowl victory from my team again. UNLESS........
1- He makes good on this circus show and hires Mariucci instead of the mentioned candidates, read in past articles.(Fassel-Spagnolo-Meeks) They will never fit the bill,i don't care what experts say! Fassel- c'mon. Accomplishments? Where, when? The Giants? Wasn't there a world of conflick between them where the administration had to intervene in order for them just to play ball?! Didn't he lose a superbowl?
Spangnolo? - Yes, kudos to his performance this year, great DEFENSIVE coordinating job but is he really ready to take a head coaching job? Especially for a division rival, who, hanging in the balance by the way, is in dire need of offensive genius.
Meeks? Who the heck is this guy. If he was answer to any prayer Indianapolis would have been in the Superbowl!
2 - He lets his staff run the show, realizes Vinny Cerrato is not the answer for a General manager, let along, in charge of football operations!
3 - He opens his mind to the fact that, since 1999(his ownership)his team(he alleges he loved since childhood)lost every ounce of respect Kent Cook lived for and the Redskins built!
4 - Did i mention hire Steve Mariucci?
5 - Adapts Coach Gibbs philosophy - hire players that want to be Redskins! Stop letting them go to division rivals(Antonio Pierce-Lavar Arrinton,James Trash..ect)
The list goes on but if he starts at these few suggestions, well hopefully ,everything else will fall in place!
Either way redskin fans, We have no alternative but to keep the faith, pray for that miracle and hopefully this guy grows up and realizes, without the fans, there is no team! I read some of your blogs! WOW! I'm surprised he didn't sell the team after some of your perspectives came to light. If we keep pushing though, maybe, just maybe, we'll make an impact on his decisions!
Like a verse in our song says..."Braves on the warpath", that's what we must do... Fight for ol' DC! Hail Fellow Skins fans!
Let's pray that Mariucci is the successor of our beloved Coach Gibbs! Same demeanor, temperment, football smarts(Offensively),player friendly and most of all, well accomplished, respected coach!
Let's get the punishment back in the Capital!
