Brunell Reportedly on Packers' List of Possible Backups

Mark Brunell apparently is on the Green Bay Packers' list as a potential backup quarterback for new starter Aaron Rodgers.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette reported that the Packers have contacted the veteran quarterback's agent to express interest in Brunell, who's a free agent after having his contract voided by the Washington Redskins.

Brunell is one of the several quarterbacks listed in the report as possible alternatives for the Packers.

Rodgers became the starter when Brett Favre informed club officials this week that he's retiring. Favre is scheduled to discuss his decision during a noon news conference today.

Hi Mark, I know this a Packers article that you wrote, however; I am Skins fan and I didn't see any posting on the Skins to respond to. The fact of the matter is that Skins have done absolutely NOTHING in free agency. Cerrato said that they would not be big players as they have been traditionally in the past but this is ridiculous. With the number of needs that they have (WR, DL, S, OL-depth, Pass Rusher, kick returner-if Rock doesn't come back) I haven't even heard as much as a player scheduled to visit. What happened to D.J. Hackettm, the WR from Seattle, I thought for sure that Jim Zorn would pursue him since he worked close to him in Seattle the past two or more seasons. Can you please dig/snoop around Redskins Park and see what you can find out? What about the draft next month...what are they going to do with the 21st pick in the 1st round?

Thanks.

Love your reports.

All those wild free agent spending sprees didn't do the Redskins all that much good. I think it's actually good to see them sitting back and taking a very calculating approach this time. I do think they'll sign a few players. They clearly need help at wide receiver, cornerback, safety and on the offensive and defensive lines. But they only need contributing players, not core players. Between free agency and the draft, I think you'll see them address all of those areas.
