Competition Committee Backs Goodell's Proposals

More from the "vacationing" Mark Maske:

Commissioner Roger Goodell's proposed crackdown on cheating has the backing of the NFL competition committee, as expected.

The committee has endorsed the measures proposed by Goodell in a memo sent earlier this month to committee members.

The measures next will be presented to the owners at the annual league meeting next week in Palm Beach, Fla. Goodell can enact some of his proposals without approval by the owners, but is seeking input.

The proposals include spot checks of teams' locker rooms, stadium press boxes and in-game communication equipment; a lowering of the threshold of proof required to impose discipline; and annual certifications by teams that they complied with all rules and reported violations.
