Culpepper, Leftwich Still Looking For Work

The backup quarterback slots around the league are being filled rapidly but two relatively prominent former NFL starters, Daunte Culpepper and Byron Leftwich, remain available on the free agent market.

Leftwich was released by the Atlanta Falcons after the season on the heels of being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars just before it. He failed to stand out in a modest quarterback mix that also included Joey Harrington and Chris Redman in Atlanta. Still, he remains a gifted passer who had some success in Jacksonville, and it stands to reason that some team will bring him in at some point.

Culpepper, too, was far from dominant this past season in Oakland. But it wasn't all that long ago that he was the second-most-prolific passer in the league behind only Peyton Manning, while with the Minnesota Vikings. The talk that he and wide receiver Randy Moss might reunite with a new team has dissipated now that Moss no longer is a free agent, having re-signed with the New England Patriots. But Culpepper, like Leftwich, continues to stand out in a quarterback market that's mostly picked-over at this point.

The Skins should go after Leftwich. I think they have to give starting job to Campbell, but with so many QB injuries having a strong back-up is a good idea.

Why do the vikings not sign this guy as a backup? Football is the one sport where the decions can be very difficult to fathom. ANYONE EXPLAIN??

The Vikings will not sign Culpepper because of his attitude before he was traded to Miami. Chili was the new coach of the team and Culpepper was after more money while refusing to rehab his knee under the Vikings supervision. Did not sit well with the coach. Odds the Vikings sign him 500:1 - Gus is paying a visit now. He would be an excellent mentor for TJ.

He will join Eagles to be the backup for Donovan. I think team should look at him as a good starter. He showed some good plays for the Raiders. The Raiders didnt have a good offensiv line so you cant only blame him for that!. Cultpepper should have 1 chance to show his skills as when he played for the Vikings!!
