Patriots Retain J. Gaffney
Free agent wide receiver Jabar Gaffney agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract Tuesday night to remain with the New England Patriots.
The Patriots are doing what they can to keep quarterback Tom Brady's receiver corps intact, losing Donte' Stallworth but re-signing Randy Moss and Gaffney to go with holdover Wes Welker.
Gaffney seemed destined to fall to fourth on the Patriots' list of wideouts this past season when the club obtained Moss, Welker and Stallworth last offseason. But while Moss and Welker had big seasons, Stallworth was a bit of a disappointment and by late in the season Gaffney seemed to have reestablished himself as the team's third wideout.
The Patriots declined an option in Stallworth's contract and he signed with the Cleveland Browns.
