Support for Goodell's Proposals

PALM BEACH, Fla.--Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay says he supports NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's proposed crackdown on cheating.

"You have to compete within the rules as vigorously as you can," Irsay said during a break in today's meeting. "You know the rules. You compete vigorously within them."

Many of the measures outlined by Goodell in the wake of the New England Patriots' videotaping scandal don't require the approval of the owners. But Goodell has been seeking input, and Irsay said he thinks that Goodell's proposals have widespread support among the owners.

"I do," Irsay said. "I think in terms of making sure we tighten up anything that could be out there and making sure owners all take responsibility, it's something that has to be done. As an owner, you have to sit down with your coach and general manager and say, 'I want to know we're not doing this.' Ultimately, it's important to have that conversation and any coach or general manager would be foolish not to heed that. I think it's a good thing. You have to be proactive and Roger has been that way when things have come up."
