Could Rumored Trade of J. Taylor Push C. Long or Gholston Ahead of J. Long on Dolphins' List?

There continue to be rumblings that the Miami Dolphins might trade defensive end Jason Taylor before the draft, although front office chief Bill Parcells previously has said that Taylor will play in Miami next season if he plays at all.

The question is: If the Dolphins indeed do trade Taylor, a former NFL defensive player of the year, how would that impact which player they'll choose with the top overall selection in the draft?

They reportedly have focused their contract negotiations on Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long. But defensive ends Chris Long of Virginia and Vernon Gholston of Ohio State are said to be under consideration as well.

Would trading Taylor nudge Chris Long or Gholston ahead of Jake Long on the Dolphins' list?

Perhaps.

Maybe it was a telling slip of the tongue, after all, rather than a smokescreen when General Manager Jeff Ireland said during the club's pre-draft news conference Thursday that the team hopes the player that it picks will be a pillar of its defense for a long time.
