Bucs Re-Sign J. Stevens, Cut B. Gradkowski
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced that they've re-signed tight end Jerramy Stevens and released quarterback Bruce Gradkowski.
Stevens had been an unrestricted free agent. He spent last season with the Buccaneers after five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Stevens had 18 catches last season, four of them for touchdowns.
The departure of Gradkowski trims the pool of Buccaneers quarterbacks to five--Jeff Garcia, Brian Griese, Luke McCown, Chris Simms and rookie Josh Johnson.
Gradkowski spent two seasons in Tampa and made 11 starts as a rookie in 2006.

Garcia is next to go. gruden is not going to put a disgruntle old man at the helm of his offense. Hey Garcia, you're not gonna get paid so move on like you've done the past 5 years. You where signed to take Simms place, Simms will be back and you are gone!!

Resigning Stevens is a mistake. The guy is B-A-A-A-A-D news off the field, and a classic under-achiever on it. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004147460_rbstevens270.html
I know teams make allowances for guys with talent, but at what point do you say "enough?"

The Bucs have been plagued by injuries the past 2 seasons. Gruden adds depth everywhere possible & this is another example. Stevens also knows the playbook. Gradkowski was a mistake & Gruden admitted it. Garcia will be the #1 in 08 while the Josh Johnson project is evaluated. The ? is Griese. He was really bad in Chicago & wasn't great in Tampa. Maybe another preseason throwaway. Amari Jackson, who, yah I know. Watched him since 9'th Grade. 6'5" Workhorse like Stovall & will be a practice squad player until 09 breakout. Bucs & Redskins always have great matchups but won't meet until the Playoffs in 08. Thats right, Redskins will be #2 in their division. Great players, new Coach, Wildcard matchup against Bucs- NFC South champs again. Bucs will win 24-17. Bucs next beat Seattle, then Vikings. Superbowl in Tampa Bay against Patriots. Jason Taylor Gets 1'st Superbowl ring with the Bucs. McCain becomes President. Any Questions.

I like this move by the Bucs, but I wonder how much their penchant for collecting QBs has led to cutting a very promising prospect in Gradkowski. As a rookie from a MAC school (who didn't previously transfer from a 'power conference' like Ben Roethlisberger) he showed true potential.
