Goodell Says League Will Begin Fining Teams Under Conduct Policy

ATLANTA--Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that the NFL will begin fining teams as part of its personal conduct policy.

Whenever a player is suspended without pay for a violation of the policy, Goodell said, a portion of the withheld pay will go to the league. The percentage taken by the league will increase, Goodell said, for subsequent violations by the same team's players.

When Goodell toughened the league's conduct policy last year, he included a provision allowing him to punish any team with a significant number of offending players, but had not followed up on enforcement of that provision until now.
