B. Sims to Niners

Free agent offensive lineman Barry Sims has agreed to a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

Sims remains in the Bay Area after being released by the Oakland Raiders after last season. He could compete for playing time at tackle with the 49ers.

The Baltimore Ravens, St. Louis Rams and New England Patriots also had been interested in Sims.

The Ravens were looking for help at offensive tackle following the retirement of Jonathan Ogden. Sims played left tackle with the Raiders and once beat out top prospect Robert Gallery for the starting job.
