Favre Reportedly Planning to Report to Camp With Packers

An NFL source has confirmed a report that quarterback Brett Favre informed the Green Bay Packers today that he plans to report to training camp with them.

The source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that Favre is likely to send a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell today asking to be reinstated.

The NFL Network reported earlier today that Favre had informed Packers General Manager Ted Thompson of his intention to report to camp with the club.

A Packers spokesman said the team had no immediate comment. Favre's agent, Bus Cook, did not immediately respond to a message.

What is unclear is whether Favre will remain with the Packers throughout training camp. It's possible that the Packers will wait to see if another team has an injury at quarterback in the coming weeks that might increase Favre's trade value.

The Packers had been calling other teams this week to sort through their trade options, and a source said earlier today that there had been dialogue in recent days between the Packers and Favre's camp. Some people in the league think Favre will be traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at some point.

Packers officials have said that if Favre returns, he would back up Aaron Rodgers. Favre previously indicated that was unacceptable to him.

The Packers are scheduled to report to training camp Sunday and practice Monday morning.

Favre announced his retirement in March but indicated in recent weeks that he wants to play this season. Goodell has made it clear to both sides that Favre will be reinstated once he makes his formal request. Favre remains under contract to the Packers for a salary of $12 million this season.
