Getting Favre Would Fit In With Jets' Recent Approach

If the New York Jets indeed are in pursuit of Brett Favre via a possible trade, it would mean they're dissatisfied with their current quarterback competition between Kellen Clemens and Chad Pennington.

Coach Eric Mangini told reporters Thursday that he was happy with the quarterbacks he had on the roster. But the Jets made some big free agent moves in the offseason by signing guard Alan Faneca to a five-year, $40 million contract and linebacker Calvin Pace to a six-year, $42 million deal, and attempting to add Favre might be part of their bid to return quickly to contender's status.

Mark,

Favre does not make the Jets that much better. Maybe a playoff team at best, but not betetr than NE, Indy, SD or Jax.

Not saying this is going to happen, but what is out there to stop the Jets for trading for #4 and then turning around and trading him to say Minnesota or someone else?

The Jets have a precedent of signing older QBs, having inked 72 year old Vinny Testaverde to a deal. If they don't get it done w/ Brett "I can't make up my mind, but I'm a leader" Favre, look for a drunken, perverted Joe Willie Namath to be signed to a deal...
