Trade Remains Likely Outcome

Even with Brett Favre telling the Packers that he will report to training camp with them, several NFL sources say they still expect Favre to be traded.

"Look for a trade," said one source.

A source said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stressed to the Packers that they cannot prevent Favre from playing. Under league rules, if Favre wants to play, the Packers must either reinstate him to their roster, or trade or release him. It doesn't appear that they'll consider releasing him, and having him around as Aaron Rodgers's backup would be problematic.

ESPN is reporting that the New York Jets have received permission to speak to Favre. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers also are thought to be in the running.
