Bucs Viewed as Favre Front-Runners Over Jets

People familiar with the Brett Favre trade talks believe he will be dealt to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but not necessarily today.

The New York Jets apparently also are bidding.

"I think it will be Tampa," said one person close to the talks, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the deliberations are at a sensitive point. "I think it will get done within the next few days. The Packers have to do it. I know Brett prefers Tampa to the Jets."

Some reports have described the deliberations as a bidding war between the Buccaneers and Jets. But one source said that while the Packers might be trying to prompt a bidding war, the Buccaneers and Jets probably will remain restrained in what they offer.

It's not clear at this point what the Packers are seeking. Earlier in the process, they were seeking a draft choice that, based on the play of Favre and his new team this season, could become a first-round pick.
