Dolphins Boot Veteran Kicker Feely
The Miami Dolphins have released veteran kicker Jay Feely.
That might clear the way for Dan Carpenter, an undrafted rookie from Montana, to win the team's kicking job.
It's also possible that the Dolphins will add a kicker to compete with Carpenter when other clubs begin making their roster trims.
Feely connected on 21 of 23 field goal attempts for the Dolphins last season but has been plagued lately by a groin injury.
The seven-year NFL veteran previously had stints with the Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants. He has made 80.0 percent of his career field goal tries.
Carpenter had two field goals, from 49 and 41 yards, in the opening preseason game.
