Favre Headed to Jets

The Green Bay Packers have agreed to trade quarterback Brett Favre to the New York Jets, an NFL source said.

The agreement was first reported by Fox.

The Jets apparently will trade a draft pick to the Packers that could increase in value based on the performance of Favre and the Jets this season.

The Jets probably will release Chad Pennington and retain Kellen Clemens to back up Favre, who leaves the Packers after 16 seasons.

He retired in March but changed his mind in recent weeks. He was in Green Bay this week but did not make it back on the practice field with the Packers after telling Coach Mike McCarthy during meetings Monday and Tuesday that he was not fully committed to playing for the club this season, according to McCarthy.

The Jets outbid the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the three-time NFL most valuable player. Favre turns 39 in October.
