Favre Mulling Packers' Offer, Might Stay Retired
Brett Favre reportedly is considering accepting the Green Bay Packers' offer to pay him not to play.
"There isn't a perfect solution to this, but Mark Murphy is at least trying," Favre told ESPN in a text message. "We know what they want and where I stand. His solution, although awkward and unsettling for most, may be the best in the end."
Murphy, the Packers' president and chief executive officer, met with Favre on Wednesday at the Hattiesburg, Miss., office of Favre's agent, Bus Cook. Murphy reportedly offered Favre about $20 million over 10 years to remain retired.
Favre's reinstatement request to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, sent to the league office Tuesday, remains pending.

It's hard to believe that Brett would sell out like that. The guy has made more than enough money to do what he wants with the rest of his life, so even publicly saying he's considering it does nothing but put the thoughts in people's heads that it could be about money. I don't believe it is, and lots of people will return to that assumption, but to even give the talking heads and critics ammo to attack him as a money hungry, attention craving prima dona is not a smart move. He should just let it be about football and only football. He's already alienated many with his flip flopping and stare down with the Packers already.

noooooo!! if thats the case i will have lost all respect for him. if after all this drama he sells out for $$$ knowing he has enough $$ to last several lifetimes... i will be disappointed. i dont believe it until i see it.

Let him come back! Sit his @ss on the bench with a clipboard all year. See how he likes that treatment!
What a freaking joke! I've lost all respect for him.

How old is Favre, 14?? A man either holds a press conference and addresses the situation and answers any and all questions or at the very least picks up the phone and calls.
An adult man does not text to a reporter.

What will be funny is that when Aaron Rodgers struggles this year and the Packers win 6 or 7 games and miss the playoffs. Yes Farve is a diva, but GB can be a playoff contender with him. The team needs let go of its ego about Aaron Rodgers. If they really thought highly of him, they wouldn't have drafted Brohm in the 2nd round. This situation is really a messy one that doesn't have to be.

I think both sides can take "credit" for this fiasco. Pay to not play. What a joke. I thought Favre had the big itch to play again. Money should not be a factor as he has a ton already.
Every sport is in a different world when it comes to salaries. Nothing makes sense except if it involves $$$.
Look at the Nationals who just let Lopez and Duca go but they still get their overpriced salaries. A deal most folks would love.
NBA-folks like Webber who have their contract purchased.
Reminds me of the Dire Straits song "Money for Nothing"....

Set him on the bench and play Rodgers? That would surely do wonders for Rodgers confidence and I can here the faithful howling for Favres return if and when Rodgers has a bad game. And some of the writers animosity towards Farve is obvious; they do thier opinions no good and desrve to be ignored. Looking at it objectively; Favre is one of the best quarterbacks in the League has led them to the playoffs (I think) all of the years he's been at the helm. He's is not a prima donna, though the reports his actions of late have caste him as one. The man is legendary and if he has become a bit tempermental of late, so?
