Favre Says Return to Green Bay Was "Formality"
Brett Favre told a Mississippi television station after landing in Hattiesburg today that he knew his return trip to Green Bay would be a mere "formality."
Favre also said he doesn't know how the Packers' trade talks with the Buccaneers and Jets will turn out.
"I'd like to say I feel pretty good, but at the rate I'm going right now I don't know what I'm going to be doing," Favre told WDAM-TV. "You know, Bus [Cook, Favre's agent] made the comment the other day I might be the starter at Oak Grove [High School]. I don't know. If I don't get to working out and doing something, I don't even know if I can do that. I feel good. I do. This has been very taxing on not only me but my family and, really, everyone involved, both sides.
"I've got to get back to the frame of mind of just going to play. We've got to resolve that. If we can't, we can't. Who knows what will happen, but we're trying to do that quicker rather than" later.
Favre said the process had drained him.
"I'm tired," he said. "I knew going up there it was more formality than anything, something I had to do. I didn't think I'd be up there too long. I wasn't. I've kind of been locked in my house the last couple of days. The fans in Green Bay were awesome, at least, on my side. But I think that the most important thing was to get that resolved up there. Green Bay has been just awesome to me and my family. It's obviously a mess right now, but it can be cleaned up. They've got really good players and good coaching, but it's time they moved on, one way or another. The bottom line in all of this is playing football, and I've always been committed to my job. I know people say to put the personal issues aside, and I agree. But I couldn't do that.
"And I think on their part, they obviously had taken the stance at some point during this offseason that they were going to move on, and that's okay. They sort of changed that stance a little bit when I got back up there. We sort of figured that would happen. Otherwise they would have released me. But they didn't want to do that, which I don't blame them. As much history as I have in Green Bay and success, I really didn't see the positives that could come out it. I just felt like there was always going to be a distraction. It was best that they had a clear-cut path they were going to go on.
"If I'm going to play, I'll try to play elsewhere and see what happens."
