Favre to Meet With McCarthy Today

GREEN BAY, Wis.--Hundreds of fans stood on the pavement this afternoon outside the fenced-in lot at Lambeau Field where the Green Bay Packers players park their cars, hoping to catch a glimpse of Brett Favre.

They wore Favre jerseys.

They carried Favre signs, including one that read: "Welcome Home, Brett!"

Favre was nowhere to be seen, but that should change soon enough. Favre traveled to Green Bay on Sunday night and was officially reinstated at midday today.

He is to meet with Packers Coach Mike McCarthy at some point today, and McCarthy is to address reporters tonight about his quarterback plans.

Favre likely will practice here Tuesday, provided that he passes his physical and conditioning test--and provided that he's not traded.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the Packers contacted the Minnesota Vikings on Friday about a possible trade involving Favre. It is thought that Favre asked the Packers to release him recently because he wanted to play in Minnesota. But Packers General Manager Ted Thompson had said he would not release Favre or trade him to a fellow NFC North team.

Some people in the league suspected Sunday that the Packers might have been bluffing about allowing Favre to return and compete with Aaron Rodgers for the starting quarterback job in a bid to increase his trade value and deal him today.

However, Vikings Coach Brad Childress told reporters today that his team had not had trade talks with the Packers about Favre.

And even if the Packers were considering, as of late last week, trading Favre to the Vikings, their thinking could have changed by now. As recently as early Sunday, remember, the Packers were intent upon convincing Favre to remain in retirement and keeping him away from training camp in Green Bay. Things seemed to change Sunday, though, about the time the league announced that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was reinstating Favre today and Favre boarded a plane headed here.

Ted Thompson has 3 choices:
Play him
Sit him
Trade him

Only 1 option leaves Ted's dog safe and that's to play Brett.

In addition, the stakes are very high that Brett perform well. I can't think of a more motivated athlete than Brett under these circumstances.

Trade him. Trade him today.

Play him for goodness sake. He's Brett Favre! If they wouldn't have pushed him hard for an early answer he never would have retired in the first place!

Now that the tampering charges have been dismissed a round 2 pick from the Vikings would be great for Viking fans. Almost as great as knowing the GM of a division rival would not immediately thank God and welcome back with open arms a guy who owns every NFL passing record and was one pass from the Super Bowl last year wuith a team no one thought would be more than 8-8. Let's see, Ted;s "plan" was to go into teh season with a guy who'd thrown 28 passes in 3 years and 2 rookies? Sounds like a genius to me.

Let him compete for the job, if he's willing to swallow his pride to do that, then let him honestly have a chance.

Brett retired before he was ready, and had some indecision in recent years. I have been hearing sports "authorities" on TV saying this is a win-now league. If that's what's in question, what is the credible answer? I think I know. I join many others in also welcoming you back, Brett. No disrespect at all to Aaron Rodgers.

Trade him now or let him compete with the other QBs immediately to prove himself like any professional. No more game-playing except the one on the gridiron.

Brett Favre needed to stay retired. I am a Packer fan and feel as though he has messed up most of the Packers most recent chances to get to the Super Bowl. Favre simply isn't good enough anymore to overcome his bone headed plays.

I pray to God that Aaron Rodgers beats him out in practice and is the starter.

With all that said, I still hope Favre stays along for the ride to pick up the ball when Rodgers gets hurt or blows it. If Favre doesn't play the whole year, maybe he doesn't crash and burn with an INT to end the playoffs.

Brett is the best qb the Packers have--have ever had--play him. It is really that simple not to mention that he has given more to the game personally than anyone I've ever seen play it. I am first and foremost a Packers fan. It is just that BRETT FAVRE is my favorite Packer. BRETT is no less a Packer than Ted Thompson, Mike McCarthy, or Mark Murphy. In fact he is more. I also like Aaron Rodgers, no disrespect there at all!! He is possibly the future. I just think that Brett should still be the present.
