L. Coles Situation in N.Y. Is Worth Monitoring
The relationship between New York Jets wide receiver Laveranues Coles and his new quarterback, Brett Favre, will be worth watching.
Coles is close to Chad Pennington and apparently was highly upset when the Jets released Pennington last week after trading for Favre. Coles has declined to comment publicly about the matter.
On Wednesday, Favre said during a news conference that he'd had a private conversation with Coles. Favre said he'd told Coles that he knew Coles had a bond with Pennington but he hoped the two still could coexist peacefully to help each other and the Jets. Favre said he emerged from the conversation on good terms with Coles.
I like Coles on a personal level, having traveled to Jacksonville to interview him for a story after he signed with the Washington Redskins. He showed me the tough neighborhoods where he'd grown up, and he took me to the land where his dream house was being built at the time. I found him to be personable and straightforward.
But spend any time with him and one thing becomes clear: He holds grudges.
He isn't big on forgiving and forgetting.
That has, in some ways, served him well. It has given him the drive to become a successful NFL player.
On the other hand, he tends to never leave a place on good terms. He was angry with the Jets when he left them for the Redskins. He left the Redskins in an ugly spat. Now he's back with the Jets, but the team's abrupt split with Pennington perhaps could create a lingering problem.
The smart thing for Coles to do would be to put his feelings aside, realize that business is business and focus on having a successful season with a Hall of Fame-bound quarterback. But if resentment toward the way the Jets treated Pennington gets in the way of that and this is the beginning of the end of Coles's second stint with the team, no one should be shocked because the pattern has been well established.

Perhaps he's angling for another big screen TV...

Looks like a non-story imo. If he can go from Jets to Skins to Jets again and get along with Patrick Ramsey about as well as Chad, he can roll with the punches well enough to play now that he has an opportunity to produce with Favre.
You can't blame him for holding a grudge with TV & ice cream sending Danny Boy, and every other grudge he's gotten past.

So what if he is grumpy. I like him. I think he's hot.
