Panthers' Lucas Out 2-3 Weeks, S. Smith Practices and Issues Apology

Cornerback Ken Lucas will be sidelined for 2-3 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair the broken nose he suffered during last week's fight with Carolina Panthers teammate Steve Smith during a training camp practice.

Lucas attended the Panthers' practice today but didn't participate.

Smith rejoined the Panthers' practice and issued an apology to the organization and Panthers fans. The wide receiver was suspended for two games without pay for conduct detrimental to the team.

"I made a bad decision," Smith told reporters. "I accept the responsibilities of my actions. I will take this opportunity moving forward to try to do the best I can to move forward past it and really just let this not define me and let me get down on myself to where I'm not able to help my teammates out and help this organization ultimately win a championship."
