Shoulder Injury Adds to Drama For C. Johnson, Bengals
Wide receiver Chad Johnson, after an offseason of lobbying to be traded by the Cincinnati Bengals and a training camp marred by a return from ankle surgery, hurt his left shoulder during Sunday night's preseason game against the Detroit Lions.
Coach Marvin Lewis said during his postgame news conference that Johnson should be ready for the start of the regular season.
But that was less than a certainty.
Tests found no breaks, Lewis said. Johnson's shoulder popped out and then back into place while he still was on the field, according to Lewis.
The Bengals were calling the injury a sprained shoulder.
The club already was missing fellow wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh and tailback Rudi Johnson.
Both are suffering from hamstring injuries.
