Steelers Add Leftwich as Backup

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed Byron Leftwich to be their backup quarterback.

They chose Leftwich over fellow free agent Daunte Culpepper, who also was at the club's Latrobe, Pa., training camp today.

Leftwich replaces the injured Charlie Batch as Ben Roethlisberger's backup.

It's the end of a lengthy job search for Leftwich, who was released by the Atlanta Falcons after last season. He spent one season in Atlanta after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars, who chose David Garrard to replace Leftwich as their starter just before last season.
