Still Awaiting Word on Severity of Umenyiora's Knee Injury
There's no word yet on the results of the MRI scheduled to be taken today of the left knee of New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora.
Umenyiora left Saturday night's preseason game against the New York Jets at Giants Stadium with an injury to the knee.
The Giants announced after the game that X-rays had been negative, and Coach Tom Coughlin said at his postgame news conference he'd been told by doctors there didn't appear to be any ligament damage. That left the Giants hopeful that Umenyiora hadn't suffered a season-ending injury.
Umenyiora had 13 sacks last season, fifth-best in the league.
The Giants, the defending Super Bowl champions, host the Washington Redskins in the NFL's season-opening game on Sept. 4.
