Stretch Run for Favre Trade Talks?

The Buccaneers and Jets are said by people familiar with the Brett Favre trade discussions to each be pressing for the completion of a deal with the Packers for the quarterback.

It's possible but not certain that a trade to one of the teams will be completed today.

The Buccaneers have been identified in published reports as the front-runner, but the Packers might find a trade to the Jets more attractive because they would be sending Favre out of the NFC and to a team they're not scheduled to face this season.

It now appears unlikely that Favre would try to block a trade to either team, even though he has indicated his preference would be to play for another NFC North franchise. But it's not clear whether Favre prefers the Buccaneers or Jets. In Tampa, he would be playing in a version of the familiar West Coast offense. He would be playing for Buccaneers Coach Jon Gruden, a former Packers assistant, and he would get to face the Packers this season.

But some people around Favre might be pushing for him to play on the big New York stage.

Why would Brett Favre inform the Packers who he would prefer to play for anyway.
All that would do is to inform Ted Thompson to trade him to the other team.
