T. Smith Gets Chance Saturday to Make Case to be Ravens' Starter

Troy Smith is to start at quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens in Saturday's preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Smith is competing with Kyle Boller and rookie Joe Flacco for the Ravens' starting job.

It seems unlikely that the Ravens will have Flacco begin his rookie season as the starter, so the job is likely to go to either Smith or Boller. Smith perhaps can pull ahead in the competition with a good outing Saturday.

BAL - Ravens Offense Ends Camp In Disarray

Source: Jamison Hensley, Baltimore Sun

As the Ravens wrap up their training camp today, they have a former construction worker (Chad Slaughter) and a former practice squad player (Mike Kracalik) starting at the offensive tackle spots. They had TE Adam Bergen) running with the first team. Bergen was out of the league in 2007. Ray Rice, a rookie, was taking virtually every snap at running back. Yesterday, almost half the starters on offense - WR Derrick Mason (knee), TE Todd Heap (calf), RB Willis McGahee (knee) and OTs Jared Gaither (ankle) and Adam Terry (ankle) - were sidelined with injuries. All of this is happening with an unstable QB situation.
