Visit But No Lions' Deal For L. Bentley

Center LeCharles Bentley visited Detroit's training camp on Tuesday but didn't sign with the Lions.

Bentley is a free agent after being released, at his request, by the Cleveland Browns.

He's trying to resume his career after a series of surgeries for a knee injury and infections.

Bentley signed a six-year, $36 million contract with the Browns in 2006 as a free agent but never played a game for the franchise. He suffered a serious knee injury on the first day of his first training camp with the club.

Bentley passed his physical and returned to practice with the Browns last month but then abruptly asked to be released, hoping to find a chance to compete for a starting job with another team.

He last played in a game in 2005 while with the New Orleans Saints.
